What Is The Right Choice?

I hit 30 2 months ago and I started to wonder and really ponder what do I  really want out of myself in the next 10 years of my life? What are the right choices in life?

Throughout my life, I seem to  be always making the wrong and expensive choices especially during these 1.5 years. Recently, in pursue of an interest,  it seems that I have once again made a bad choice by taking a pay cut of slightly more than  50%. If there is anything good about it, I will really have to thank my family especially my mum (for being my emotional pillar) and my hubby (for picking up my tabs). There are also my group of girl friends who are always there for my mental health-being. This article “Warren Buffett Shares His Most Essential Advice For Generation Y” sent by my best bud really made me see my choice in a new light.

In a nut shell this is how the article goes:

1. Find your passion.

“Never give up searching for the job that you’re passionate about,” he says. “Try to find the job you’d have if you were independently rich. … Forget about the pay. When you’re associating with the people that you love, doing what you love, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

2. Be careful who you admire.

“If you tell me who your heroes are, I’ll tell you how you’re gonna turn out. It’s really important in life to have the right heroes. I’ve been very lucky in that I’ve probably had a dozen or so major heroes. And none of them have ever let me down. You want to hang around with people that are better than you are. You will move in the direction of the crowd that you associate with.”

3. Learn how to communicate effectively.

While getting his MBA from Columbia University, Buffett revealed that he was “terrified of public speaking,” causing him to withdraw from a Dale Carnegie class. But after graduating he saw the ad for the course again and decided to give himself a second chance.

“I became associated with the 30 other people in the class. We couldn’t stand up in front of a group and say our own name. I mean it was — we were — it was pathetic. But that class changed my life in a big way.”

4. Develop healthy habits by studying people.

“Pick the person that has the right habits, that is cheerful, generous, gives other people credit for what they do. Look at all of the qualities that you admire in other people … and say to yourself, ‘Which of those qualities can’t I have myself?’ Because you determine whether you have them. And the truth is you can have all of them.”

5. Learn how to say “no.”

“You won’t keep control of your time, unless you can say ‘no.’ You can’t let other people set your agenda in life.”

6. Don’t work for someone who won’t pay you fairly.

“I do very little negotiation with people. And they do little with me, in terms of it … if I was a woman and I thought I was getting paid considerably less than somebody else that was equal coming in, that would bother me a lot. I probably wouldn’t even want to work there. I mean, [if] somebody’s gonna be unfair with you, in salary, they’re probably being unfair with you in a hundred other ways.”

7. Become involved with growing businesses.

“I mean, you want to get on a train that’s going to go 90 miles an hour and not one that’s gonna go 30 miles an hour and you’re gonna try to figure out how to, you know, push it along a little faster. So it really does make a huge difference. And there are some businesses that inherently [have] far more opportunities than others.”

8. Learn everything you can about your industry.

Buffett says he reads for six hours every day because he believes that growing your intellectual capacity will help you solve problems more effectively.

“I knew a lot about what I did when I was 20. I had read a lot, and I aspired to learn everything I could about the subject. “

9. Young women should seek mentors.

“These [mentoring] relationships all just evolve. I never set out to become a mentor … It’s amazing … how the person that really wants to do a terrific job just jumps out. There aren’t that many. You will be perceived as exceptional and as a worthy person for a superior to spend some extra time with if you just do something extra all the time. It seems elementary, but it’s true.”

At the end of the interview, Buffett reminded everyone to keep getting up after all falls because “you are healthy, and bright and have decades ahead of you.”

Well there are people who says, “of course being one of the world’s richest man, it is easy for him to say that.” However with his experience in life, who can say he is wrong too?

Anyway with the article and with what I saw and experienced today, I am already slightly more affirmed that my choice might not be totally bad.

8 Years And Still Going Strong

We have been married for 8 years and I am more than happy to say that its going stronger more than ever from year to year. We do have our own rough times but my hubby has never failed to out a smile on my face or a giggle or 2. A frown on my forehead, a pout on my lips and a twinkle at the corner of my eyes, he will always know (or should I say guess) what’s going on in my mind.

Happy Thanksgiving Day

This evening after work, our team is being invited to my boss’s home for a Thanksgiving Dinner. Pardon me for my ignorance but I have never been invited to one before and am rather excited about it that I even googled the history of Thanksgiving Day. It seems long but I guess in short and in my very own understanding, it means a celeberation to give thanks after a good harvest. Am I right?

One very interesting thing about this dinner is that all my boss wants for us is to share something that we are truly thankful for this year. I took this rather seriously and really thought about what I am thankful and I realised I have loads and tons of things to be grateful for. I think I shall just share 3 of the most important things that I am grateful for.

1. Family

Our Very First Family Trip to Hong Kong (though my brother is missing). 🙂

Yup yes family. Without family, where will I even be? For instances:

My parents. No doubt they can be interfering, suffocating and there are even times I feel like running away, yet without my parents support, love and care, I doubt I will ever have my very own family today and even a house I can call home. I will not be able to work worry-free if my mum has not looked after boys.

My siblings. Yes we do fight, argue, get jealous of one another and even throw chairs at each other. However as with the phrase, ‘the blood is always thicker than water’. They are always there in times of needs and we will never ever allow another outsider to bully each other no matter how much we “dislike” each other at times. Especially to my little sisters, I am thankful that they are here to be at my “beck-&-call” whenever I need them.

My ever doting hubby.Again we do have our differences but no matter what, this is the man who has always been there for me (sincec I was 17), compromising me (with complaints), giving me the things I want to the very best of his ability and trying very hard to be supportive of every decision that I had made even though it sounds crazy at times.

My loveliest boys in the entire world. They do bring me heartache and rising blood pressure at times. But without them, will I ever understand what’s giving, what’s unconditional love, what’s laughter and happiness without expectations and many more. These little boys have taught me much much more than anyone could have.

Because of family, I am able to walk without fear. Because of family, I am able to ignore any judgements on me. All this is because, whenever I arrive home, I know I will be showered with unconditional love by people who loves me for who I am.

2. Friendship

My Darlings

I do have my long time old buddies (even longer than I know my hubby). We do not meet very often since we went into tertiary studies. After marriage and kids, the gatherings became even more pathethic thatn ever, even though we have been trying to meet up once a month. These crazy girls are so dear to me that I wonder without them, will I even survive the insanity of being a rebellious teen and much much more. And if you wonder how close we are, well I guess we can talk about almost everything under the sun and moon from personal finances to hubby “taming” and to bed room intimacy.

For the people I met along the way as I moved along in my life, I can’t tell you how grateful and thankful I am for the footprints you have left in me. The help you guys have given me and the laughter you have brought me is one I can never be thankful enough for.

3. The Country I Stay In

I know I know, you are going to ask me, “Sure anot???” Seriously in every country, there will be bound to have people who are full of disgrunt for the country’s policy, the rising cost for standard of living, the economic crisis. Frankly speaking I am one of them too. Yet looking at the positivie side, we are really one the safest country in the world. Free of natural disaster and the freedom to walk out late at night, for this I am truly grateful.

Now that I have shared mine, it is your turn to stop and think what you are grateful for. It is quite interesting to put away your worldly pursuit and think for a little while on this.

P.S: This is what I brought to share 🙂 Seriously hope that the guys do enjoy it.

A Blueberry Lemon Pound & A Triple Chocolate Orange Pound

Natural Beauty Product:Lush-Dark Angels

Wow I realised that the last time that I did a beauty product review was more than a year ago. Well Juice Beauty (especially their GREEN APPLE MASK) still remains one of my favourite product and during this time, I did try other cleansers but it wasn’t really worth mentioning. I am not sure because as I am aging, some of these off-shelves products does not seem to really suit me anymore.

Anyway, this is not the first time that I came across Lush. In fact, I always pass by it whenever I am walking through the underground pass of Wisma Atria and when I walk nearer, I can always smell the warf of fragrance (flowers, honey, herb…..) from the shop.

This time round, I decided to walk in and ask to try some of their masks. Somehow or rather, after deciding to purchase their Brazened Honey Mask (will review later on), I took a curiosity towards their facial cleanser- Dark Angel, that truly captivated me with their bits and pieces of black. I started to imagine how fair I will become after sleathering all these black granulate stuff all over my face. Don’t ask me why because somehow it is just a pictorial illusion to me of those black-becoming-white stuff (if ya get what I mean.) And because my skin is a combination skin which is why the ever-patient sales lady recommended me this:

See all those black beauty

How to use it.

After using it for coming a week, I think I quite like it but I am not sure how much because this cleanser does not foam (if you see from my pictures above). Without it foaming, I am really not sure how this product can penetrate into our pores to deep cleanse it. Even though it is said that the cleanser’s main ingredient Rhassoul Mud is is a natural mineral product that has a foaming effect and also has grease remover property. Upon further read up, I realised that this mud been used by Moroccan women for centuries to care for their skin and hair and it is intended to soften the skin, reduce sebum secretion, regenerate the skin by removing dead cells, and rebalance the skin by tightening the pores.

Wow, wow wow……………………………. (So I guess my concern for unclean pores is quite uncalled for isn’t it???)

At the point of first usage, other than the worry of having unclean pores, I was also worried if the oils (Avocado, Sandalwood and rosewood) in this cleanser will clog up my pores and cause a break out. But so far so good I am not having any break outs after a wek of usage. And I also just realised that:

  • Avocado Oil:  Reputed to be beneficial in reducing age spots and the appearance of scars and it softens and moisturises skin’s upper layer.  It is also said to help protect skin from ultraviolet rays.
  • Rosewood Oil: Other than its spicy, sweet and woody aroma, it is said to be antidepressant, antiseptic and bactericidal.

So now that I have done my read up, I guess I am totally loving this product because also when I am using it, I know that this cleanser sure does exfoliate very well with the presence of black sugar. As I gently massage the cleanser into my face and neck, and inhale deeply into the warm, sweet, woody fragrance of the sandalwood and rosewood oil, I felt a calm and relaxing sensation that seems to loosen up the knots around the behind of my neck that I am so tempted to rub it down my body as a body scrub (“,).

I will usually leave it on my face for about a min before washing it off with warm water, tone it, apply my serum and moisturiser.

After washing the cleanser off

The picture above might not show much a difference but I do feel that, my face seems cleaner after using it. Most importantly, this cleanser does not dry up my face leaving it taut and tight. Infact there seems to be a protective thin layer of oil that leaves the skin kind of velvety soft.

I Need To Learn To Have More FAITH

I realised that I have not been blogging since mid September. Well this is because other than being seriously busy, I have not been really in the mood as there are some other things weighing on my mind which I might perhaps later on share.

As for this entry, it is all about Clemens’s exciement and achievement. He has his 2nd swimming competition this year. I was rather surprise with his enthusiasm to participate after the set back earlier this year and especially the lack of training these months.

In fact on the actual day itself, he woke up earlier than us to prepare and was pestering us to get ready to fetch him as well. And therefore we arrived at an  empty pool.

Still too Early

So Many Medals Being Laid Out. Will any one of it belongs to C?

Anyway when the event started, we were suprised at his spurt of energy leading at the first (which was quite a wrong thing to do), only to be out of energy at the finishing, tailing behind. He was signed up for 5 50meter events namely, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and a breastroke relay by his coach which made me shudder at the thought of it, wondering, “Is Coach out of his mind? How can Clemens ever do it? I have hardly seen him finish a 50meter in a competitive way before.” I seriously really thought he might just give up when I remembered how once I had given up half way through a swimming competition as I thought I was going out of breathe and I only took part in 2 events.

Given his small frame, build and his really strong competitors (I know as they practice on a at least 4 times a week basis, while Clemens’s practices has to be based on hubby’s and mine work schedule which gives him no chance of training at all sometimes even 2 weeks in a row), I am amazed and touched by his spirit going on, pressing on even he knows there are others infront of him. For these I am THANKFUL to Coach Andy and Fiona from Aquatic Masters for having more faith in my son than myself.

Coach Andy & His Team

My Boy-Clemens

Even though he only won 2nd in the team relay because of the super fast last swimmer in the team, Clemens is already a winner in all aspects in my heart. Throughout the hours of sitting though the competition, I see my son enjoying himelf, his peserverance to press on even though he was lagging behind and his sportmanship attitude and his interpersonal skills as he goes around chatting people up. All these made me see him in  a totally different light from our usual days encounters where he can be rather grumpy, dreamy and someones who gives up at the slightest hardship at times. And again, I know no matter what, I am always proud to shout out that, “Clemens is my son!!”

On my part, I also realised what wonderful grandparents an aunties my boys have even though both aunties and nephews will have their rub-ins at time. I have so many people to be thankful for.

  • I will like to once again thank Coach Andy and Fiona (from Aquatic Masters) for training him despite his limited trainings and also for havving more faith in Clemens than me- as his mum.
  • I am thankful for my dad for his paitence and dropping us at the pool despite Clemens’s bugging and calling him to hurry. 🙂
  • I am thankful for my mum‘s companionship.
  • I am thankful for my sisters’ help for running here and there, taking note of his events, for taking  so many beautiful shots of the event and also entertaining Damir at the same time.

P.S: I think this time round, it was a wonderful opportunity for Clemens to grow and also for my hubby and I to not to “look down” on our kids. Hehehehehehe Hubby has told him, “As long as you get any 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any event I will get you a Pokemon DS game.” and you guys know what? All these were said because we believed that he will not get any prize for this competition. Sheesh (-_-“)

Anyway because his paternal granny was also so proud of him that she bought it for him instead. 🙂 Lucky boy to be loved by so many people.

Boys will be boys 🙂

One more photo to share before I end this entry.

See our Swimmer acting all like a baby with mummy cradling him and grandma feeding him lunch. 🙂
